Support Bob Ambuehl in His Fight Against Cancer:

We are reaching out to the firefighter community to rally support for one of our own, Bob Ambuehl. Bob, 56, from Darien, IL, has devoted his life to serving his community as a full-time firefighter (engineer) and paramedic. He is a loving husband to Sue and a dedicated father to three children: Katie (33), Josh (21), and Kelsey (19).

Bob’s Battle:

Last fall, Bob was diagnosed with cancer, but continued to serve his community with unwavering dedication. Around Christmas, we received hopeful news that the cancer was removed, and Bob looked forward to returning to his normal life. However, at his three-month checkup in March, the devastating news came that the cancer had returned and spread to his lymph nodes.

Determined to fight, Bob began chemotherapy and completed two rounds with his characteristic resolve. Unfortunately, after his second round, he began experiencing severe symptoms that led to an urgent care visit and ultimately a trip to the ER.

Critical Condition:

On May 21st, Bob was admitted to Good Samaritan Hospital Emergency Room, where his condition rapidly deteriorated. He is diagnosed with C. Diff. Colitis, the infection spread to his colon, causing his white blood cell count to plummet. Emergency surgery was performed to remove his colon and a significant portion of his small intestines, saving his life but leaving him in the ICU with a long recovery ahead.

The Road Ahead:

Bob will be in the hospital for several weeks and faces an extensive recovery period. Despite his own struggles, Bob continues to show concern for others, embodying the selfless spirit of a true firefighter.

He managed to attend his son Josh’s college graduation just before his condition worsened and remains determined to be present for upcoming milestones, including his daughter Katie’s wedding in July and his daughter Kelsey’s graduation from Saint Louis University in the coming years.
